Ikea Stair Safety Gates Cause Injury
PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL
When having children, we all think about what steps, around the home, we can take to make that environment a safe place for our children.
To safeguard against falling downstairs, we install safety gates. Not all safety gates perform as they should.
The furniture and home furnishings retail giant, Ikea, has recalled a line of safety gates following reports locking mechanisms have opened unexpectedly causing children to fall downstairs and sustain injury.
The types of safety gates identified as being possibly faulty include the Patrull Safety Gate, Patrull Klämma and the Patrull Fast.
Ria Thorn, acting Business Area Manager at Children’s Ikea said “At Ikea we have a zero tolerance regarding child safety”. Following a third party investigation into the safety gates, she said “Whenever we are made aware of a possible safety issue with our products, we investigate thoroughly. We cannot accept that there could be a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate and precautionary action we have decided to recall all Patrull Safety Gates”.
As some children have already received medical treatment for their injuries, customers can return the gates to any Ikea store and do not need a receipt. The gates retail at up to £50 in the UK.
Any customers who want more information about the recall can contact Ikea on 0203 645 0010. If your child has been injured as a result of any of Patrull Safety Gate range, we can help you make a claim for your child’s injuries.
