A Seaside Treat For Domestic Abuse Families

Date Added 05.04.18

When Tollers first engaged with its charity of the year, MK Act, we asked them what would make a difference to the families who have suffered domestic violence.  Apart from the obvious need for funding to keep the centre running, we learned that each year MK Act organises an annual trip to the seaside.  Our aim over the last year has been to raise funds to support this trip, to provide a little sea, sand and fun; on 19th March we were delighted to present the charity with our donation of £1,920.92 towards this.

Sue Burke, Chief Executive at MK-Act said: “As a charity we cannot do what we do without the amazing support of companies like Tollers; their help is invaluable and their support has given light in a dark time for our families.”

Lolly Marlborough, Fundraiser & Marketing Manager at MKAct added: ‘The HUGEST thank you for raising £1,920.92 to take the families to the seaside this year!  Your donations have made a huge difference and we are excited about our visit to the seaside.”

Duncan Nicholson, Managing Partner of Tollers commented: “Our staff have been proud to support such a fantastic charity over the last year and to make a difference to the families in the refuge.”

As well as fundraising, Tollers staff donated 100 Easter eggs and chocolates last Easter and a sack of cleaning and toiletry items earlier this year.

Women in the refuge said: “As well as being thankful for the gifts, it meant so much to know people and organisations in Milton Keynes care and were thinking of us families in the refuge. It was very heart-warming.  The toiletries were absolutely lovely. Having such luxury as well as necessity items brought such joy to my family. Please feedback my thanks and appreciation.”

Tollers has been delighted to support MK Act during the last year. The Charity provides a wide variety of services to families experiencing domestic abuse in the Milton Keynes area. They work with over 100 families every day and have been providing safe emergency accommodation for women and their children escaping domestic violence for over 40 years.
