Fee Earner in our Elderly and Vulnerable Client Unit

We are looking for a Fee Earner to join our Elderly and Vulnerable Client Unit.  This is a full-time vacancy based in our Northampton office.

This role will include working as part of a busy team to manage a shared caseload of files. The caseload predominantly comprises financial management files for those who have lost capacity through dementia, mental health issues and brain injury.

The ideal candidate must have previous experience and should be efficient, organised and able to work well under time pressures and as part of a structured process within the team. Candidates should have good attention to detail and a confident telephone manner and must be able to interface with clients with patience, empathy and sensitivity.

The role will include visiting clients at their home or care home, therefore a car owner/driver is essential.

Main duties include:

  • Creation and registration of Lasting Power of Attorneys including conducting client meetings;
  • Applications for Deputy orders including conducting client meetings;
  • Applications for Gifting /Statutory Wills/Trustees and other mixed Court of Protection applications;
  • Undertaking initial assessment of files to include reviewing clients’ financial position, funding and receipt of appropriate benefits.
  • Annual meetings with clients who lack capacity to manage finances, including reviewing care plans;
  • Collating information for client tax returns and liaising with appropriate referrers;
  • Completion of Office of the Public Guardian annual reports.
  • Processing instructions relating to Attorneyship/Deputyship administration work in accordance with established procedures of good practice, the firm’s quality system and the Office of the Public Guardian’s (OPG) Professional Deputy Standards

Supporting the EVCU team with the management of the overall caseload to include:

  • Delegating and dictating appropriate work to support staff;
  • Where work is undertaken, maintaining appropriate records on file and updating communal client lists, spreadsheets and records;
  • Assisting with the case management system, filing, photocopying and telephone enquires;
  • Assisting in marketing activities as directed.
