Tollers Help Charity Headway To Launch Their Newest Charity Shop
Tollers recently acted for Headway on a voluntarily basis in obtaining their new charity shop premises in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. The Tollers Real Estate team undertook due diligence and negotiated with the landlord’s solicitor on a number of areas when drafting the lease. The lease was completed in good time, allowing Headway to enter the premises and begin fit-out works as planned.
Carol Tennet, Head of Retail at Headway, said: “The new shop marks a very exciting time for the charity as it means we can reach out to more local families living with brain injury.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to Tollers Solicitors for providing pro bona legal support and making the shop launch possible“.
A charity volunteer who was forced to rebuild his life from scratch after sustaining a life-changing brain injury opened the new charity shop to help other families affected.
Chris Crutchlow, 40 and from Long Eaton, was given the honour of cutting the ribbon and declaring the new Headway charity shop open for business at 60 Market Street, in Ashby, on Tuesday 25 August.
Chris had been riding his bike to the local shops when he suffered a near-fatal brain haemorrhage. Despite being rushed to Tamworth Hospital to receive emergency treatment, Chris tragically suffered yet another brain haemorrhage while in hospital and spent the next three weeks of his life in a coma.
Thankfully, Chris began to show signs of improvement, though he was left him with a devastating brain injury that would go on to challenge him for years to come. As part of his rehabilitation, Chris eventually began volunteering with the Headway Donation Centre where he supports the charity’s van driver, Dan Hardwood, with stock collection and deliveries.
Chris agreed to open and subsequently support the new Ashby store to mark the 20 year anniversary of sustaining his brain injury.
“I’m still recovering from my brain injury and even now I have occasional balance issues,” said Chris.
“I really enjoy helping Dan on our van route to the local Headway charity shops and I would love to see people coming along to support our latest venture in Ashby to help us provide better services for others affected by brain injury.
“Whether you are a survivor of brain injury, know someone who has been affected by brain injury or just want to support a good cause in your free time – everyone is welcome.”
