Tollers Chooses Charity Of The Year For 2017
At Tollers we take Corporate Responsibility very seriously. A really important element of this is the Firm’s desire to support and give back to local Charities. Each year the Firm’s Corporate Responsibility Committee takes the time to identify a worthy local charity to support, no easy task when you have so many deserving charities to choose from.
This year was no exception and after serious deliberations Tollers are delighted to announce that their Charity of the Year for 2017 is MK Act.
MK Act are a Charity who provide a wide variety of services to families experiencing domestic abuse in the Milton Keynes area. They work with over 100 families every day and have been providing safe emergency accommodation for women and their children escaping domestic violence for over 40 years.
As a charity they offer a number of services for victims and their families including their Crisis Intervention Service – this vital service provides a single point of referral to ensure a family only have to tell their story once and that they are offered all the information, as well as emotional support they require.
They also have a refuge which houses up to 28 families in self-contained units (women and children only). Families can stay there for anything from a few weeks to a couple of years depending on their circumstances.
Abuse does not discriminate and so the services that MK Act offer are available to both men and women, although predominately the individuals the charity assists are female.
Do you know over 2 women a week are killed by their partners or ex-partners.
That 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in the UK will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.
This is why the services that MK Act provide are crucial. Further information on the services that the Charity offer can be found on their website http://www.mkact.com/.
To start our support of the charity, which came into effect on 1st April 2017, Tonina Ashby, Solicitor, and Helen Capel, Practice Manager, visited the MK Community Foundation offices on Wednesday 5th April, to deliver over 90 Easter eggs & chocolates which were donated by staff from across Tollers 8 offices.
MK Act staff were delighted and said ‘we are looking forward to delivering the Easter Eggs to families in the refuge and to those recently relocated; it will be a lovely surprise’.
Tonina said ‘Tollers are proud to support MK Act and we look forward to helping to make a difference through our fundraising’
Tollers’ aim over the next year is to support the charity in a variety of activities including donations of cleaning products & toiletries to help new families settle into their accommodation and more importantly raise sufficient funds to cover the cost of a day trip to the seaside for around 28 families & give them a welcome change of scene.
Tollers as a Firm and all of our teams are proud to support such a worthy charity and hope to make a positive difference to the individuals who need these vital services over the coming year.
