The Spirit Of Christmas Tollers Staff Give To A Worthy Cause

Date Added 23.12.16

With Christmas looming fast, the Corporate Social Responsibility team at Tollers organised a Christmas present delivery to two local charities.  Many employees of the Firm have regular contact with Age UK and Age Concern Stevenage, so it was decided that this year Tollers would like to show their support for these much needed charities by asking the staff to donate gifts.

It is becoming something of a tradition for the staff at Tollers to donate gifts for those less fortunate or alone during the festive season.  The response from the Tollers teams has been fantastic, with lots of gifts being donated.

Age UK Northampton run an annual Christmas week across their eight centres in Northamptonshire, where they ‘put on’ Christmas for some of their elderly clients, some of whom might otherwise not get much Christmas cheer.

Karon Walton, Head of the Tollers Elderly and Vulnerable unit, Helen Capel, the Firms Practice Manager and Karen Walters the Firms Marketing Manager visited Age UK’s, Venton Wellbeing Centre in Northampton on Thursday 22nd December to give out the presents that the staff had so generously donated.

A wonderful afternoon was had by all, there was great musical entertainment, a two course lunch and over 50 elderly people received a gift to make their Christmas a little brighter.

Karon Walton said, “Over the Christmas period older people can experience loneliness and Tollers staff wanted to give something back to show that they are not forgotten “.

It’s not only at Christmas that the charity works hard, they work tirelessly every day of the year to ensure that the clients who attend their centres have access to facilities that will make things a little easier for them.  The Venton Wellbeing Centre is open 7 days a week, providing food, entertainment and leisure pursuits, as well as access to hairdressers, podiatrists and other services that are vitally important to the older generation.  But the most important aspect of their work is the fact that they give their clients access to their peers and many deep friendships are formed that enhance the lives of those that come along.

Whilst in the South of the region the Staff from Tollers Stevenage and Kempston offices kindly donated Christmas presents to Age Concern Stevenage for distribution amongst local elderly residents. Sam Edwards, Chair of Age Concern, was very grateful for the gifts and said that there were many delighted and surprised faces when the gifts were handed out.

The charity in Stevenage is supported all year round by Fiona Nash, Head of Private Client South who is a trustee for Age Concern and Sharon Brown, Solicitor who offers a monthly free legal advice clinic.

Tollers are delighted that the staff from their offices in Rutland, Milton Keynes, Corby and Northampton decided to support Age UK this year and that Staff from Stevenage and Kempston supported Age Concern Stevenage and look forward to continuing the tradition of supporting people in the local communities they serve in the years to come.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
