Settle
This means : the point at which you tell us you want us to tell your opponent you wish to accept their offer, or they accept an offer that you have authorised us to put to them. The decision is always yours, not ours. We are your advisors. It is your role to decide whether or not to accept an offer. We will advise you on the risks of the choices that are before you.
Settlement can apply to any part of the claim: for example, blame (liability), part of your damages or, indeed, to costs. However, normally the compensation/damages part is settled before and separately from the costs.
