PERSONAL LEGAL FAMILY LAW

Collaborative Law

Over 150,000 people currently divorce every year in the UK.  For many it is an overwhelming time, fraught with emotion and stress.  Sadly the court process can be lengthy and very acrimonious.  But there is now a relatively new structured alternative to the courts called Collaborative Law.  This has as its central feature a pledge by the couple to resolve issues in a dignified and civilised manner without going to court.

Naturally the collaborative process is not for everyone.  However, if the couple approach it with the right attitude they can lay the foundations for a better future.  The collaborative process can produce final agreements that are more detailed and complete than any order issued by a judge after a contested court hearing and thereby meets the couples own particular needs.

The central core of Collaborative Law is that the approach is non-adversarial. During a series of round the table meetings, discussions will take place to resolve matters by agreement rather than by litigation. Having reached an agreement your Collaborative lawyers will work together to implement the terms of the agreement. Collaborative Law will not be for everyone but when it works well it is the best way to resolve matters in constructive manner.

At Tollers, we have four qualified Collaborative Lawyers, Alan Peck, Sally Smith, Katie Herrodand Nicola Hill. If you are ready to work with your estranged partner to reach agreement by way of collaboration rather than by ways of litigation, then please contact us by clicking on any of the above names.
