In theory it should be a good step for the first treatment for one's hip, as it avoids removing as much bone as would be required for a full hip replacement. The French authorities report that the failure rate in France is 5% - which is higher than that normally experienced. They have decided that the French state will pay for the operation to remove the implants.

Currently opinion is that there no link has been established between the leaking silicone and cancer. However, once the implant has ruptured it can be more difficult to remove and could cause lumps and inflammation of and discomfort in the breast.
