A new joint investigation by BMJ and BBC Newsnight published today has raised further concerns over the exposure to dangerously high levels of toxic metals from failing hip implants. New guidance from the MRHA issued today recommends that all metal on metal hip recipients are now monitored on an annual basis (blood tests and MRI scans).

The Sunday Telegraph reports that the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) is considering new advice for patients fitted with metal on metal hip replacements due to concerns that the devices could cause systemic toxicity.
