And the competition begins….. part 2

23/09/2011

Tollers' Lord Sugar Impersonator has been hearing all about the fundraising ideas this year’s Apprentices have come up with and he is getting pretty excited. Here’s what he has to say about how the Teams are doing so far.

Nina Chivers and Ingemar Hunnings’ Team have chosen to run a Rugby World Cup Sweepstake which could prove very profitable for the team. Football is more my cup of tea, never really got the rugby thing, bunch of egg chasers if you ask me. Good luck to them though.

Team GIBO is exploiting the skills of their team members to run an Indian Takeaway. If they can keep the costs in check this could be a real winner as Tollers’ staff are well known for enjoying a tasty snack! I love an onion bhaji and a samosa or two.

Maureen Addison’s Team have set up a company, Cupcakes by Conveyancing, which is just the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that puts a smile on my face. That brings me onto the other Conveyancing Team lead by Fran Humphries and David Wootton who will be acting as slaves, running a tuck shop and filling a car up with balloons.

Team Apathy have set up in direct competition to Cupcakes by Conveyancing with an extreme cake-off expected. I’ve heard about the bake sales Team Apathy have run in the past and they’ve always been highly successful so it will be interesting to see who will come out on top in the Board room.

I heard that Gary Tait and Chris Saunby are inverting the old fashioned “guess the number of sweets in the jar” game. It’s a classic fundraiser so it’ll be interesting to see if they are able to add a new twist. I’m always on the look out for innovators and I might just have found myself a right pair here.

Barnes’ Babes have secured an afternoon off of work as their star prize. That displays some fantastic negotiating skills and will have people clamouring to enter. Sometimes you dangle a carrot, sometimes you lead with the stick and an afternoon off work is a massive carrot. I wonder if they will use some of the logos from my many businesses.

Martin Hill’s Team are running a car washing and car parking service. This is great stuff. I started out like that just making money from odd jobs, they have really understood what the task is all about, but they better not start saying they’re just like me, no one is like me I’m unique. I’ll be round with the Rolls Royce and I want the wheels cleaned with a toothbrush Martin.

Ian Carson and Tom King’s Team seem to have taken things a bit far… Nick Hewer has informed me that Ian has sent his wife on a cake decorating course in preparation for their Team’s bake sale. That man is a first class delegator and is showing an early competitive edge that’s going to take him far in the Tollers' Apprentice.

Karen Brady informs me that Simon “the brand” Bagshaw has taken an underhanded approach to the task and is trying to secure a victory by getting other teams disqualified for breaking the task rules. I think this approach may be fundamentally flawed, I don’t need another Corporate Lawyer confusing matters with all their legal mumbo jumbo..

David Baskerville’s Team are a funny old bunch, I’ve heard they are going to be showing re-runs of Blackadder and Faulty Towers over lunchtime and providing viewers with popcorn and drinks, so long as they keep the money rolling in I’ll be laughing! Good luck Teams and I’ll see the winners and losers in the Boardroom.
