Charity Law
We have a long history of providing advice and assistance to all kinds of charitable institutions both locally and nationally. This includes the formation of charities whether they are unincorporated bodies, clubs, companies limited by guarantee or companies with Royal Charter status. We frequently assist with the preparation or updating of constitutional documentation and advise upon all the formal requirements under the Charities Act 1993. In addition to this we provide support and guidance to charity trustees by advising them on their personal responsibilities and liability.
Our Business Property team regularly acts on the disposal and acquisition of property of charitable organisations, both on a freehold and leasehold basis. We ensure the relevant statutory requirements are met, recognising the additional liabilities and duties charitable status can bring.
