Child Support & Maintenance

The Child Support Agency (CSA) is responsible for assessing the amount of money which the absent parent should pay towards the upkeep of his or her children.  This calculation takes into account each parent’s income and essential outgoings.  The procedure is quite complicated as the circumstances of each family need to be considered separately.  We will be able to give you an indication of the amount of child maintenance which the CSA will require the absent parent to pay.

Although the courts only have limited powers when deciding matters in new child maintenance cases, in some circumstances the court is able to approve an agreement reached between husband and wife.
